Today we’re excited to share with you the latest upgrade: enhanced API User Management. Until now API access involved a single API key. In some ways this limited your control over how the key is used, and who get access to the API and the actions that they can perform.
With this latest feature upgrade, you can now:
- Create Multiple API Users: Assign unique credentials to different individuals or applications that need access to your API.
- Assign Tailored Permissions: Granularly control the level of access each user has by granting them specific roles and permissions.
- Improve Security and Administration: Disable, edit or delete API users as needed to maintain tight control over your account and data.
- Ability to limit this feature for account sub users: You can enable or disable the ability to add API users for each of your account sub users
This increased granularity in API user management provides better security and control, ensuring that keys can never be misused or lead to security issues.
How to Get Started with API User Management
Accessing the new API User Management features is simple:
- Go to the developer area and look for the “API ACCESS LIST” section.
- Click the “ADD API ACCESS” button to create a new API user.
- Provide an API ID (a name or email to identify the user) and assign the specific API methods you want to grant access to.
- Optionally, you can also restrict access to certain IP addresses for enhanced security.
- Note the auto-generated API key – this is essentially the user’s credentials.
You can easily edit, disable or delete any API users that you create via the actions menu.
Benefits to using this feature
The new API User Management feature empowers you to take complete control over who can access your API and what they can do. By creating customized user permissions, you can:
- Onboard third-party developers or partner organizations with tailored access
- Provide limited API access to certain internal teams or applications
- Improve security by revoking access for users who no longer require it
- Maintain an audit trail of all API activities through individual user credentials
With this upgrade you are now in full control of your Emercury account, allowing you to integrate across your stack without having to worry about security or data governance.
